Situation on Ukraine-Belarus border fully controlled by defense forces – Border Guard Service

The situation on the Ukrainian-Belarusian border remains stable, no changes, non-standard actions in the form of sabotage and reconnaissance groups or other provocations from Belarus were recorded recently, Spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Colonel Andriy Demchenko has said.

"The situation on the Ukrainian-Belarusian border has not changed recently. The defense forces of our country – border guards and units of the Armed Forces and the National Guard – fully control the border line along its entire length with Belarus. We have not recorded any non-standard situations or provocative actions in the recent period either," he said on the national telethon on Thursday, commenting on statements by Belarusian officials about strengthening their troops on the border with Ukraine.

Demchenko also said that "our intelligence units are, of course, monitoring what is happening deep in Belarus, how much the situation may change and how threatening it may be for us, so that in the future we can respond adequately and objectively to the challenges that may arise."

According to him, this direction for Ukraine, "as before, remains dangerous as long as Belarus remains in the sphere of influence of the Russian Federation, and as long as Russia can put pressure on Belarus so that it is drawn more widely into the war unleashed by the terrorist country against Ukraine. Therefore, in general, we need to have a strong defense and be prepared for any developments."

Regarding the state of defense, Demchenko noted that all necessary actions to strengthen it along the border with Belarus in terms of engineering and fortification are being carried out constantly.

"At present, we do not see any direct movement of equipment or personnel of the Belarusian army near our border. We are constantly monitoring the situation in order to respond adequately," he said.
