Kostin on Rome Statute ratification: Now we'll have our own voice in decision on ICC work

Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andriy Kostin has described the ratification of the Rome Statute as a historic moment and noted that Ukraine will now have a voice in decisions that determine the activities of the International Criminal Court (ICC).

"A historic moment... Ukraine has recognized the jurisdiction of the Court for over ten years. Ukrainian prosecutors cooperate with the ICC on a daily basis. Now we will have our voice in decisions that determine its activities," he said on Facebook on Wednesday.

The Prosecutor General also emphasized that this is further evidence of Ukraine's commitment to the values of the free world.

"For Russia, disregard for the law and morality is a deliberate policy. Ukraine, on the other hand, is defending itself and taking all measures to comply with the norms and principles of international law. Today, we have once again proven our commitment to the values of the free world," he said.

As reported, 281 MPs backed bill No. 0285 on the ratification of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court and amendments to it as a whole at a plenary session of the Verkhovna Rada on August 21.
