President signs law on Criminal Code amendments in connection with Rome Statute ratification

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed bill No. 11484 on amendments to the Criminal and Criminal Procedure Codes of Ukraine in connection with the ratification of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court and amendments thereto.

The corresponding mark appeared in the bill card on the website of the Verkhovna Rada.

As reported, the parliament supported the bill at a meeting on October 9. A total of 228 MPs voted "for."

The document implements Article 7 of the Rome Statute (crimes against humanity), supplementing the Criminal Code with a new article establishing criminal liability for crimes against humanity.

According to the draft law, the first part of Article 442 of the Criminal Code (genocide) is set out in accordance with the text of Article 6 of the Rome Statute, namely, it provides for criminal liability for causing mental disorder with the aim of the complete or partial destruction of any national, ethnic, racial or religious group.
