China to continue humanitarian aid assistance to Ukraine, play constructive role for ceasefire – FM
China pays close attention to the humanitarian situation in Ukraine, will continue to provide humanitarian assistance and is ready to continue to play a constructive role in the ceasefire process, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China reports following negotiations between Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba in Guangzhou.
During a meeting with Kuleba, Wang Yi noted that China and Ukraine are mutually friendly countries, and what was achieved in the course of their interaction is friendship and cooperation.
"China believes that all conflicts should be resolved by returning to the negotiating table, and all disputes should be resolved through political means. Recently, the Russian and Ukrainian sides have, to one degree or another, declared their readiness for negotiations. Although the conditions and times are not yet ready, we support all efforts to promote peace and are ready to continue to play a constructive role in the ceasefire, cessation of hostilities and resumption of peace negotiations. China is concerned about the humanitarian situation in Ukraine and will continue to provide humanitarian assistance to it," a statement on the department's website says.
During the talks, Wang Yi and Kuleba also exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual interest. The Chinese Foreign Ministry indicated that the two countries established a strategic partnership more than ten years ago, treat each other with mutual respect and equality, and are constantly developing mutually beneficial cooperation.
"The two heads of state emphasized the need for long-term vision and planning for relations between the two countries, as well as moving forward China-Ukraine relations and bilateral cooperation. We should take this as a basis, maintain communication and exchanges, strengthen mutual trust, continue traditional friendship, promote rapprochement between people, promote the healthy and stable development of China-Ukraine relations," the Chinese Foreign Ministry emphasized.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry also noted that in recent years China has been Ukraine's largest trading partner and the largest exporter of agricultural products. "Bilateral trade showed rapid growth in the first half of this year, indicating that there is opportunity and potential for cooperation between the two countries," it said.
It is also emphasized that China will continue to expand food imports from Ukraine and jointly support the smooth operation of logistics corridors and international food security.
"We are grateful to the Ukrainian side for the assistance provided in the evacuation of Chinese citizens, especially foreign students, at the beginning of the conflict, and we hope that the Ukrainian side will continue to take effective measures to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel and institutions in Ukraine," the statement said following the negotiations of two ministers.
