Kuleba: We receive clear signal that China not looking for ‘temporary solutions,’ but working towards sustainable solution to problem of war launched by Russia against Ukraine
A clear signal has been received that China is not looking for “temporary solutions,” but is working towards a sustainable and strategic solution to the problem of the war launched by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said after talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Guangzhou.
In an interview with TSN, Kuleba noted that the first and most important point of the negotiations is that China supports the territorial integrity of Ukraine. According to the Ukrainian minister, Wang Yi made it “very clear and repeatedly” that China's position on supporting Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity is unshakable.
“This is very important. Because further, when diplomatic processes are underway, when the Peace Formula is developed, respect for territorial integrity is the basic principle of any peaceful settlement,” the Foreign Minister explained.
The second important diplomatic point, according to him, is the position on establishing a sustainable and just peace in Ukraine.
“I was talking about the importance of a just peace, not any peace. And my Chinese colleague himself added that it was fair and lasting. This is very important, because usually we are the ones who constantly say that peace should be sustainable - lasting and fair. This is important, we have received a clear signal that China is not looking for any temporary solutions, temporary cease-fires, but it is working for a sustainable, strategic solution to the problem of the war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine. And this is also a very positive signal,” he stressed.
The minister also added that he and his Chinese counterpart had discussed other things, but it was “not yet the time for us to talk about it publicly.”
“But these two starting positions are respect for territorial integrity and a stable, just peace, if they remain at the heart of the Chinese approach to ending the war and restoring peace, then everything will be fine,” Kuleba said.
As reported, on July 23-25, Kuleba paid a visit to China at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
