Naftogaz, Gazprom to resume talks in Moscow Jan 8 – Naftogaz chief

The Ukrainian national energy company Naftogaz Ukrainy and the Russian gas monopoly Gazprom will resume negotiations on supplies of natural gas to Ukraine and gas transit to Europe through Ukraine in 2009 in Moscow on January 8, Naftogaz Chairman Oleh Dubyna said.

The president of the European Commission Manuel Barroso and the Czech EU presidency are to discuss the situation with Russian gas supplies in Prague on January 7, European Commission Spokesperson Johannes Laitenberger said at a press conference on Tuesday in Brussels.

Naftogaz Ukrainy, the Ukrainian national energy trader, presumes that the Russian gas monopoly Gazprom might fully stop gas transit to Europe through Ukraine, Naftogaz Chairman Oleh Dubyna said.

The Russian gas monopoly Gazprom reduced the pressure of natural gas at the entrance to the Ukrainian gas transportation system to a level corresponding with a supply of 73.8 million cubic meters of gas a day as of 10:00 a.m. local time from 81 million cubic meters as of 8:00 a.m. local time.

Honda Ukraine doubles car sales in 2008

Honda Ukraine, a subsidiary of Japan's Honda Motor, in 2008 doubled car sales in Ukraine over 2007, to 13,700 cars, according to the company's press service.
