Energy workers have completed a key stage of emergency work in Kyiv and the region after the Russian attack on January 9, and the transition from emergency electricity restrictions schedules on the Right and Left Bank of the capital to hourly ones is underway, Deputy Energy Minister Roman Andarak has said.

"Thanks to the prompt and professional actions of energy workers who worked around the clock, the key stage of emergency work in Kyiv and the Kyiv region has been completed. Emergency shutdowns are in effect on the Right and Left Bank in the capital. The transition from emergency to forecasted schedules is currently underway," he said during a briefing at the Ministry of Energy, which was broadcast online.

For her part, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said on Telegram that a significant improvement in the electricity situation is expected closer to Thursday

"Given the scale of the damage in the capital, the supply of coolant and electricity was restored in record time. At the same time, for objective reasons, planned and emergency power outage schedules are currently in effect. It takes time to significantly improve the situation in Kyiv - we are focusing on Thursday," she wrote.

As reported, emergency power outages have been ongoing since Friday in parts of the Pechersk, Holosiivskyidistricts and on the Left Bank of the capital. In addition, emergency schedules are applied in the Odesa, Kharkiv and Donetsk regions.

According to Andarak, on Monday night, the Russian Federation struck another blow to the Ukrainian energy sector, as a result of which consumers in the Odesa, Zhytomyr, Sumy, Kharkiv, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk and Chernihiv regions were left without electricity. He noted that energy workers began emergency restoration work at night. But, in particular, in the Chernihiv region, where an energy infrastructure facility was damaged and a number of settlements were left without electricity, the restoration of electricity supply will begin as soon as the security situation allows. Andarak added that due to adverse weather conditions, 161 settlements in the Kyiv region, 48 in the Zakarpattia region, 36 in the Dnipropetrovsk region and 15 in the Chernihiv region were left without electricity. Repair teams of the regional energy companies are working to restore the damaged lines.
