Stubb after meeting with Trump: April 20 is good date for ceasefire between Ukraine, Russia
Finnish President Alexander Stubb said that during a seven-hour meeting with Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago on Saturday, he discussed the date of a ceasefire in Ukraine and the development of US sanctions against Russia in case of its refusal or violation.
Stubb noted during a press conference that April 20 is a good date for a ceasefire in Ukraine.
"Why April 20? Because a deadline is needed, because it is Easter and because then President Donald Trump will be in power for about three months," the Yle portal quotes him as saying.
According to Stubb, if Russia does not agree to a ceasefire or violates it, a strong sanctions mechanism will need to be introduced. He said that such sanctions are also being prepared in the United States.
"We have also discussed this with President Trump and Senator Lindsey Graham, the architect of the sanctions package. And in the near future he will propose this with the support of fifty senators in the United States," the Finnish president said.
Senator Lindsey Graham, according to Reuters, also attended the meeting in Florida, where Stubb and Trump, among other things, played golf.
Trump reportedly posted on his social media account Truth Social that he had successfully played a round of golf with Finnish President Alexander Stubb. Stubb, for his part, also posted on the X platform about his stay at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate on Saturday, accompanied by a photo.
