Romanian PM supports increase in defense spending, but opposes sending troops to Ukraine

Prime Minister, leader of the Social Democratic Party of Romania Ion Marcel Ciolacu, during consultations at the presidential palace in Cotroceni on Wednesday, spoke out against sending Romanian troops as part of a peacekeeping contingent to Ukraine, but supported increasing spending on the country's defense and infrastructure.

"NO to the deployment of Romanian troops into Ukraine; YES to additional defense appropriations, but only in the form of investments in the national arms industry and increased military mobility [modernization of railway, road and port infrastructure, which can be used in dual mode]; Exclusion of defense spending from the budget deficit calculation," Colacu wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.
