A statement by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban about alleged Christmas truce was made for "PR in headlines" and it just helped Russia, particularly to launch a new attack on the Ukrainian energy system, a communications adviser to the President of Ukraine, Dmytro Lytvyn, said.

"We can see now that this Mr. Orban's PR was simply used by Moscow to cover the preparations for another missile attack on our energy system. Russian missiles even approached the EU countries' borders again. Unfortunately, Mr. Orban's work for loud headlines contributed to Moscow's attack," he told BBC in an interview issued on Friday.

As reported, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban responded to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's comment on Orban's phone conversation with Vladimir Putin on December 11, and announced his initiative for a Christmas ceasefire.

On the same day, Lytvyn said that the Hungarian side did not discuss anything with Ukraine, and did not warn about its contacts with Moscow.
