Germany provides aid for Ukrainian healthcare – ambassador
The EUR 4 million allocated by Germany for the urgent needs of Ukraine's medical system will be used to help the Okhmatdyt national children's hospital and hospitals in frontline areas, said German Ambassador to Ukraine Martin Jaeger.
"Germany is providing EUR 4 million in humanitarian emergency aid for urgent needs related to the attack. It's important that we are providing aid not only to Okhmatdyt but also to hospitals that have taken in sick children from Okhmatdyt. They too have needs due to accepting these children and because of the war overall," the ambassador said at a briefing with Okhmatdyt Director General Volodymyr Zhovnir on Friday.
Jaeger noted that the missile strike on this hospital is "terrible, but unfortunately, it is a daily reality for many hospitals in Ukraine, including those in frontline areas."
"Therefore, if we think about Okhmatdyt, we also think about those areas near the front, where people also need medical care. And part of the urgent humanitarian aid is going there," he said.
The German ambassador assured that Germany is ready to continue providing aid both today and in the coming months.
He reminded that Germany will provide EUR 10 million for the restoration of Okhmatdyt.
"Together with the general director, we inspected the extent of the damage. It is simply horrific, a lot is destroyed, so Germany will provide these EUR 10 million," said the ambassador.
On July 8, Russians launched a missile strike on Okhmatdyt.
