U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Supreme Allied Commander of NATO Europe and Commander of US Armed Forces in Europe, General Christopher Cavoli, arrived on a visit to Kyiv.

"I just arrived in Kyiv to meet with Ukrainian leaders. I'm here today to deliver an important message – the United States will continue to stand with Ukraine in their fight for freedom against Russia's aggression, both now and into the future," Austin wrote on X (Twitter) on Monday morning.

In turn, U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink announced the arrival of Cavoli along with Austin.

"Delighted to welcome back to Kyiv Secretary of Defense Austin, together with EUCOM Commander General Cavoli to relay our unwavering support to Ukraine in its fight for freedom," she wrote on X.

According to the U.S. Department of Defense website, during his visit Austin will hold high-level negotiations with the leadership of Ukraine. Discussions will focus on further strengthening the strategic partnership between the United States and Ukraine, including ensuring Ukraine's Armed Forces have the combat capabilities they need to both survive the winter and defend their country against future Russian threats.

"Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III traveled to Ukraine today to meet with Ukrainian leaders and reinforce the staunch support of the United States for Ukraine's fight for freedom. He will also underscore the continued U.S. commitment to providing Ukraine with the security assistance it needs to defend itself from Russian aggression, while also discussing a long-term vision for Ukraine's future force," the report notes.

Later this week, Austin will also host the 17th meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group online from the Pentagon, continuing the vital work of international coordination and support for Ukraine that is expected to involve about 50 countries.
