Some 96% of healthcare institutions in Ukraine operate in controlled territories – head of WHO office in Ukraine
In Ukraine, 96% of healthcare institutions are currently operating in controlled territories, Head of the WHO Country Office in Ukraine Jarno Habicht has said.
"The good news is that 96% of the health facilities (area under control of Ukraine), if we look across the whole country, are still functioning," he said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
He said that "the situation is different in different areas." He took Donetsk region as an example where every third facility is well functioning, so their access to healthcare is much more difficult.
"In Kherson region, we see that more than 70% of facilities have some damages. And in 58% of facilities, the equipment is damaged. In the East and South, the healthcare facilities are more attacked, and that's why they are not also functional," he said.
