Trilateral US-Ukraine-Russia meeting likely next week – Witkoff
U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East and peace settlement Steve Witkoff said a meeting between the United States, Ukraine and Russia will likely take place next week.
"There was supposed to be a trilateral [meeting]… The Ukrainians themselves say that we have made more progress since the initial meeting in Geneva than we did in the past four years. The trilateral [meeting] will be shifted until time next week," Witkoff said on the CNBC program Money Movers.
"So that is moving forward, and remain positive on that," he added.
Asked whether a peace agreement could be reached this year, he avoided giving a direct answer.
"In this particular circumstance, and he said it, it's taking longer than he thought. And it, and, hopefully, that's the beginning inflection point," he said.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said an agreement had been reached with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to hold the next round of Ukraine-U.S.-Russia talks on ending the war in Turkey, but the meeting was postponed for a week at the initiative of the United States.
