Sybiha: Wadephul confirms Ukraine remains in focus despite Middle East events
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has confirmed that Ukraine remains in the spotlight despite the tense events in the Middle East, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha said after phone talks with Wadephul.
"I had a constructive conversation with my German friend and colleague Johann Wadephul. We exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East and expressed solidarity with the countries of the region that have been attacked by Iran," the press service of Ukraine's Foreign Ministry said, citing Sybiha.
Sybiha said he thanked his German counterpart for confirming that Ukraine remains in focus despite the tense events in the Middle East, adding that Kyiv highly values Germany's unwavering solidarity and comprehensive support.
In the conversation, Sybiha also stressed that despite Russia's ongoing energy terror, Ukraine has endured. He said Ukraine had made it through the hardest winter and that spring had finally arrived, meaning Russia's attempts to break Ukraine through darkness and cold had failed. Sybiha said Ukraine owes this "victory" to Germany, which went through Russia's winter terror together with Ukraine.
Sybiha said he briefed his counterpart on the battlefield situation, noting that Ukraine has recently begun liberating more territory than Russia is occupying.
"We coordinated our bilateral agenda, discussed next steps on Ukraine's path to EU accession and agreed to stay in close contact," the Ukrainian minister said.
