Umerov: Ukrainian delegation heads to Abu Dhabi for US talks, trilateral meeting with Russia
Ukrainian negotiating team leaves for Abu Dhabi today, there will be a bilateral meeting with the United States and a trilateral one – with the participation of Russia, which will have a "mandate to discuss military-political issues."
"Today we were with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, reported together with the delegation, explained that today we are deciding on the road, received directives and clear framework from the president. Our goal is to be in Abu Dhabi and hold negotiations on Wednesday-Thursday, February 4th, 5th," he told reporters of the telethon.
According to Umerov, the work in the UAE will consist of two parts. The first is a bilateral meeting with the U.S. side. The U.S. side will be represented by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the NSDC Secretary confirmed.
"We will discuss the signing of security guarantees and the prosperity package. We will also discuss some bilateral issues," he said.
A trilateral meeting is then scheduled. According to Umerov, the Russian side will also "be represented significantly."
"They will have a mandate to discuss military-political issues. After that, we will report to President Zelenskyy on Wednesday and Thursday," the NSDC Secretary said.
He said the so-called prosperity or recovery package being discussed with the United States consists of several parts.
"We want to make it clear what support Europe will provide, what support the United States will provide, where we will be able to sign it and when. Our teams have been working for several months now, and we are almost at the final stage. We want to know, or ask our team, to finish this prosperity package in a few days, and we have agreed to sign it in the near future," Umerov said.
Responding to a question about the negotiations with Russia, whether the issue of an energy truce and discussing territories will be raised, Umerov said "we are constantly touching on all the things that our population needs."
Speaking about the resumption of the prisoner exchange process, Umerov replied: "You will hear certain results in the near future, and this is ongoing work that has been underway since 2022."
Earlier on Monday, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy held a coordination meeting with a delegation ahead of a new round of trilateral meetings with the United States and Russia, which are scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi on February 4 and 5.
