URCS pays over UAH 590 mln in cash assistance to war victims in 2025

The Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS) in 2025 paid out over UAH 590 million in cash assistance to those affected by the consequences of the full-scale aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

"In 2025, URCS continued the systematic implementation of cash support programs for people who suffered the most from the consequences of the full-scale war and belong to socially vulnerable categories of the population. During the year, almost 29,000 people received cash assistance, and the total amount of payments exceeded UAH 590 million," the URCS reported on Facebook on Monday.

For many people, cash assistance became critically important after losing their housing, income, or access to basic services. Support was directed to residents of frontline and de-occupied communities, the elderly, people with disabilities, veterans, families of missing persons, as well as civilians released from Russian captivity.

"War creates new challenges every day for people who are already in a vulnerable position. Cash assistance allows us to quickly respond to urgent needs and gives people the freedom to choose what is a priority for them right now: basic expenses, winter preparation, housing restoration or rehabilitation," said Olena Skrypnikova, Head of the Department of Innovative Financing and Cash Transfer Programming at URCS.

Last year, the cash programs of URCS covered a wide range of needs of the population. They provided support to civilians released from captivity, families of missing persons and people whose housing was damaged by hostilities. Separately, multipurpose assistance was provided to residents of frontline areas in emergency situations, as well as financial support to prepare families for the winter period. An important direction was assistance to the elderly and people with disabilities, in particular through the "Home Care" program. In addition, the organization facilitated the physical rehabilitation of veterans and patients of mobile rehabilitation teams.

The implementation of the programs was made possible thanks to the support of international partners - the British, Canadian, Austrian, Danish, Norwegian and Swiss Red Crosses, as well as the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Some of the initiatives were implemented in cooperation with government agencies and local communities.
