Generation of damaged CHP plants in Kyiv to be replaced by distributed sources – Shmyhal

Generation of damaged combined heat and power (CHP) plants in Kyiv will be replaced by distributed sources, said First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal following the meeting of the headquarters for the elimination of the consequences of Russian shelling of the energy sector in Kyiv and the region.

Specific steps have been developed to replace generation lost from damaged CHP plants with distributed sources, including the installation of cogeneration units and modular boiler houses, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said. He instructed Kyiv to urgently calculate the number of units needed to compensate for the losses, he wrote on Telegram on Monday.

"We also had substantive work with regional businesses today. We reviewed each enterprise individually to understand their needs and capabilities. The result of the dialogue is concrete — in the near future, we expect to receive additional megawatts of capacity from business-owned generation," the energy minister wrote on Telegram.

According to the minister, Ukraine received "31 tonnes of cargo — generators, transformers and other equipment from Spain, Finland, Norway and Austria" over the past week. A large shipment of generators from Lithuania and the European Union is also expected.

Shmyhal also reported the transfer of generators to municipal utilities and service providers.

"Separately, we agreed with the city to support providers that can ensure xPON fiber-optic internet technology in residential buildings. There should be no monopoly here, and people must receive high-quality communications services under any conditions," the first deputy prime minister wrote on Telegram.
