Military commanders accused of paying combat payments to staff officers to be tried in Zaporizhia – SBI
The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has reported the completion of the pre-trial investigation into fraud with military payments in Zaporizhia.
The report on the agency's website states that the indictment has been sent to the court.
"The investigation established that the head of the military unit, together with the head of the financial service, created a system of enrichment for 'their own.' The commander signed documents about the alleged participation of staff employees close to him in combat operations on the front line. The head of the financial service entered this unreliable data into the settlement information," the report says.
The documents indicated that the selected servicemen allegedly fought "at zero" in the Luhansk and Kharkiv regions, although in reality they did not leave their places of permanent deployment. Due to these frauds, staff employees close to the leadership managed to illegally receive almost UAH 700 thousand U "combat" payments.
The commander of the military unit and the head of the financial service are accused of abuse of official position for the purpose of obtaining unlawful benefit for themselves or another individual, committed by a group of persons in prior conspiracy, and official forgery (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 2 of Article 364, Part 2 of Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The sanction of the articles provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of up to 6 years. The issue of compensation for damages caused to the state is being resolved. The court has seized the property of the defendants.
