Sybiha congratulates Cyprus on start of its presidency of the Council of EU, France on G7, Switzerland on OSCE
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiha congratulated Cyprus on the beginning of the presidency of the Council of the European Union, France on the beginning of the presidency of the G7, Switzerland on the beginning of the presidency of the OSCE, as well as Bahrain, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Latvia and Liberia on their election as members of the UN Security Council for 2026-2027.
This was stated in a message of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on the Telegram channel on Thursday.
"I highly appreciate that among the key priorities of Cyprus in the Council of the EU is continued support for Ukraine and the restoration of a just and lasting peace. I look forward to fruitful cooperation with the Cypriot presidency and my colleague Konstantinos Kombos to advance the negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU and strengthen the European security architecture through support for Ukraine and closer integration of our defense industries," the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs quoted Sybiha as saying.
Regarding France, the Minister said: "We highly value our partnership and France's significant contribution to the restoration of a comprehensive, just and lasting peace. Years of cooperation between Ukraine and the G7 have allowed us to remain steadfast in defending freedom, democracy and international law. I wish the French Presidency success in promoting our shared principles and look forward to fruitful cooperation in 2026."
"We highly value Switzerland's strong commitment to achieving lasting peace for Ukraine and to upholding the principles of the Helsinki Final Act. Ukraine is ready to work together to restore peace, justice and guaranteed security. The OSCE can count on our close cooperation in ensuring its capacity to act. I look forward to the visit of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office to Ukraine," Sybiha noted.
The Minister also emphasized the important role of the UN Security Council: "At this crucial moment, when the international order is undergoing serious tests, we are convinced that responsible members of the UN Security Council can make a significant contribution to maintaining international peace and security, which are today being significantly undermined throughout the world, in particular as a result of armed aggression. Ukraine will support efforts aimed at overcoming numerous global challenges and at strengthening the principles of the UN Charter." "We welcome partners and will continue to cooperate together for a common goal," the Minister added.
