Freight train derailment near Korosten likely caused by UAV strike - Ukrzaliznytsia
The freight train accident near Korosten (Zhytomyr region) was probably caused by an attack by a hostile UAV, Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways – UZ) has said on Telegram.
"Regarding the reasons: investigative actions are ongoing. More details will be provided by law enforcement and special services. Preliminary: the freight train was hit by a detonation, probably by a Shahed type UAV," the company said in a statement.
As reported, the freight train derailed near Korosten, causing emergency braking and derailment of the locomotive of the passenger train 45/46 Kharkiv-Uzhgorod. The freight train crew, the driver and the assistant were injured. Both were hospitalized. There were no injuries on the passenger train. The accident caused a delay and change in the direction of movement of a number of trains.
