Stubb floats meeting between Trump and Putin at G20 summit in November
Finnish President Alexander Stubb believes that his American counterpart Donald Trump and Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin could hold a new meeting in South Africa on the sidelines of the G20 summit.
According to Finnish Yle, Stubb said this at the opening of the National Defense Courses.
"Stubb proposed holding new talks between US President Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin at the G20 summit in Johannesburg in November," the report says.
The Finnish leader emphasized that Russia’s war continues, and Finland, as before, supports Ukraine.
"By supporting Ukraine, we gain a lot. Ukraine’s understanding of the specifics of modern warfare gives us a lot," he added.
The head of state also paid special attention to nuclear weapons.
"We have entered a new nuclear era, in which, unfortunately, the importance of nuclear weapons is growing," Stubb said.
He recalled that Trump ordered the testing of nuclear weapons in response to tests by Russia and North Korea. NATO also recently held annual exercises.
Stubb also said that Finland’s national defense is at a good level and is constantly developing.
