Ukraine's prospects improve after sanctions on Russian oil – Starmer
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said in an interview with Bloomberg that Ukraine's prospects are improving after President Donald Trump imposed sanctions on Russian oil. The interview was published by Bloomberg on Monday.
"A sign Kyiv’s allies are cautiously optimistic that a hardening US stance could damage the Kremlin’s ability to sustain its war," Bloomberg comments on Starmer's statements.
"We’re in a better place," Starmer told Bloomberg in an interview on Monday, referring to the sanctions imposed by the United States against Russian oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil. "Last week there were really significant developments."
"The one I’d pick out as the biggest development is what we’ve done on sanctions," the British premier said. "We sanctioned all the oil majors, President Trump then sanctioned the two oil majors, and the EU came out with their latest package all within the space of a few days. That’s had a profound impact on Russia’s economy."
