2 min read

A presentation of the analytical report "Militarization of Ukrainian children in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine" took place in Kyiv with the participation of Head of the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD) Andriy Kovalenko and Advisor to the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine and Operations Director of the Bring Kids Back UA initiative Daria Zarivna, as well as with the participation of the CCD's management.

At the beginning of the presentation, Zarivna noted that international practice still lacks a clear mechanism for the return of abducted children and emphasized the importance of developing a clear mechanism for return and reintegration.

"Within the infrastructure that we have built, we have an international Task Force led by the Office Head, Andriy Yermak, and Baroness Helena Kennedy. This is a very well-known human rights activist, lawyer. And she has gathered leading lawyers on international humanitarian law, human rights activists and so on into this group. We are working on policies and mechanisms for the return of children, because in international practice, there is still no clear, concrete mechanism. It needs to be worked out, the same applies to best practices for the reintegration of children, because it is very important what will happen when we return these children," she said.

Answering a question from an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent, the advisor to the head of the Presidential Office noted that cooperation with Latin American countries regarding their possible joining the International Coalition for the return of Ukrainian children is now more actively aimed at involving civil society.

"That's why we started to do these meetings [with representatives of the public]. Of course, there are many such thematic issues at the meetings. But this is a dialog in which these limited topics take place and there is an opportunity to convey some things that can be difficult to convey through the political channel of communication," Zarivna said.
