USA forces AFU to allow 30,000-strong Russian group to quietly retreat from Kherson in 2022 – US author
The United States forced the Ukrainian Armed Forces to allow a 30,000-strong Russian group to quietly retreat from Kherson, Bob Woodward claims after talking to U.S. officials in the book "War" (Woodward Bob: War), ZN.UA said in Telegram channel.
The author of the book writes that when the Ukrainian army liberated Kherson in the autumn of 2022, the U.S. intelligence warned that the risk of a nuclear strike would increase if the Russians lost their main forces while retreating from the city.
According to the plan of the Ukrainian army, the Ukrainian Armed Forces were supposed to pursue the retreating Russians and launch massive strikes, but this did not happen, the Russians retreated without significant losses.
It turned out that before the Russian enemy retreated, the Americans warned President Joe Biden that shelling by the Ukrainian Armed Forces at Russia could lead to a 50% probability of a nuclear strike by Putin, ZN.UA said.
The Americans called the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov, who promised Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the U.S. Armed Forces Mark Milley that nuclear weapons would be used in the event of heavy losses during the retreat from Kherson.
After that, the Russians received a kind of security guarantee and reached the left bank, having transported all their equipment and personnel.
The Americans' fear of nuclear weapons forced the Ukrainian Armed Forces to refrain from attacks, as a result of which the Russians calmly retreated, preserving 30,000 soldiers and equipment.
The author of the book claims that the Americans' fear of nuclear weapons forced the Ukrainian Armed Forces to simply wait, which allowed Russia to conserve its forces, regroup and seize large territories of Ukraine.
