NBU building, opposite apartment building damaged in Kyiv during attack on New Year's night
The building of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) on Instytutska Street in Kyiv was damaged during an attack by unmanned aerial vehicles on the night of January 1.
"It is preliminary known that houses in the center of Kyiv were attacked by at least four shaheds. Everything is being promptly investigated by law enforcement officers and experts," head of the President’s Office of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, wrote on Telegram on Wednesday.
Before that, he published photos of an apartment building on the corner of Instytutska and Bankova streets, which is located opposite the National Bank building, which show that it received significant damage. "The Russians hit ordinary houses in the center of Kyiv. They deliberately targeted the center of the capital on New Year's Eve," the head of the President's Office wrote.
"The roof of my favorite NBU building will be repaired, the roof of the eastern neighbor was permanently demolished, so it needs to be isolated … The main thing is to support the National Bank of Ukraine and Andriy Pyshny. The main thing is that everything will be fine with our people," Victoria Strakhova, a member of the supervisory board of the state-owned Ukreximbank, wrote on Facebook, illustrating the message with a photo of one of the buildings of the National Bank, distributed earlier by Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.
The photo of the building's facade shows that windows are broken in it, and a fire is raging in the background.
Vladyslav Vlasiuk, the Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for sanction policy, published photos of both damaged buildings – an apartment building and the National Bank building. "Rescuers, police, SBU, and experts are on site. All the fragments of the four mines were immediately sent for the examination. The modification of the navigation module is of interest," Vlasiuk wrote on Facebook.
His photographs, as well as those of Yermak and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, show that the six-story corner building at 10/2 Instytutska Street was significantly damaged. The exterior walls of the corner apartment on the top floor were destroyed along with the observation tower, windows were broken in other apartments, there was a fire in the stairwell, cracks were visible on the walls of the house. Parked cars were damaged in the courtyard of the house.
