Transit of Russian gas through Ukraine stopped — Energy Ministry

The transit of Russian gas through Ukraine has been stopped, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine reported on Wednesday morning.
"At 07:00, in the interests of national security, the transportation of Russian natural gas through Ukraine was stopped. Ukraine has informed its international partners about this in accordance with the established procedure," the ministry said in a Telegram message.
Since January 1, Ukraine's gas transportation system operates in a no-transit mode for Russian gas. The infrastructure of the gas transportation system has been prepared in advance for operation in the zero transit mode and reliable gas supply to Ukrainian consumers.
"We have stopped the transit of Russian gas, this is a historic event. Russia is losing markets, and it will suffer financial losses. Europe has already decided to abandon Russian gas. And the European Repower EU initiative provides exactly what Ukraine has done today," said Energy Minister Herman Haluschenko.
