Macron to meet Zelenskyy in Brussels tonight

French President Emmanuel Macron will meet with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday at 18.15 in Brussels, the French newspaper Le Monde writes, citing the Elysee Palace.

It is indicated that the meeting of the leaders will take place on the sidelines of the EU-Western Balkans summit. On the other hand, Macron may miss an important summit on Ukraine, organized by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, due to his departure to Mayotte, Le Monde reports.

It was planned that on Wednesday evening after the EU-Western Balkans summit, Macron would take part in an informal meeting organized by NATO Secretary General Rutte with the Ukrainian president and leaders of major countries.

It is indicated that European countries will discuss the war in Ukraine a month before Donald Trump returns to the White House. In particular, the presence of the heads of government of Italy, Germany and Poland Giorgia Meloni, Olaf Scholz and Donald Tusk has been announced. But the departure to Mayotte "could disrupt the initial intention" of Macron to also participate, even if it is not yet completely excluded that he can go there, the Elysee Palace said.

In case of his absence, he will be represented by the outgoing Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, who is responsible for current affairs until the arrival of a new government in France. In any case, the head of state will talk to Rutte on the phone before traveling to Brussels, and there he will meet with Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the summit with the Balkans, the Elysee Palace assured journalists.
