Zelenskyy wants to talk to Biden, once again convey that he still can invite Ukraine to NATO – Yermak
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy wants to talk to U.S. President Joseph Biden once again in order to convey that while he is in office, he still has the legal opportunities to make an important step and invite Ukraine to NATO, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak has said.
"Of course, the President wants to talk to President Biden once again, in order to convey once again that he has such an opportunity, while he is still in office, while he still has these legal opportunities, to really make such an important, historic, I would say, step and close all these 20-odd years, when we are promised something every year, we change the wording, but there is no main thing: there is no just a simple step, to invite Ukraine to NATO," he said in an interview with the Karpyak on Suspilne project, which was broadcast on Thursday.
The official also recalled the skepticism that Ukraine would not be able to obtain the status of a candidate for EU membership "so quickly and during the war." In addition, according to Yermak, "many people said and did not believe that after practically 2.5 years Ukraine is able to demonstrate some very big success there, unexpected success on the front, but the Kursk operation happened."
"And we have surprised this world so many times already, that the main thing for the President, for all of us, for the whole team is to do everything we can, and even more, to achieve the result," he said.
As reported, on December 9, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he intended to discuss by phone with U.S. President Joseph Biden the issue of inviting Ukraine to NATO.
