French President Emmanuel Macron said there is a need to work closely with Ukraine and the new U.S. administration to find a "possible way forward" that would take into account the interests of Ukraine, its sovereignty, and the interests and security of Europeans.

During a briefing with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Warsaw on Thursday, Macron stressed that Russia's war against Ukraine "is of significant importance to us," and this was the reason for the trilateral meeting Macron organized in Paris a few days ago between U.S. President-elect Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

"The Trump administration has said it wants to try to change the course of this conflict, and so we need to work very closely with the Americans and, of course, with Ukraine to find a possible way forward that takes into account the interests of Ukraine and its sovereignty, as well as the interests and security of the Europeans. This is the philosophy we adhere to," the president said.

The French leader said there can be no peace in Ukraine without Ukrainians.

"That is, so that no one can negotiate on behalf of the Ukrainians the concessions that need to be made, this is a matter for the Ukrainians," he said.

"I would also like to say that we are in full solidarity in our support for Ukraine and the Ukrainians at this important stage, despite the fact that Russian attacks continue. We also share the vision that only a lasting peace is a possible peace, that is, a peace that the Ukrainians have agreed on and that allows them to have long-term security guarantees," Macron said.

The president said that without Europeans there is no security in Europe, and therefore "the importance of the discussions that are underway is that, obviously, sustainable peace in Ukraine is lasting security in Europe." "And in this regard, coordination between our countries is crucial, first of all, to determine security guarantees, and then for each of us to take on obligations," the president said.
