Kyivstar launches VoWiFi, allowing voice calls even with weak mobile network signal

The largest mobile operator in Ukraine, Kyivstar, has launched the VoWiFi (Voice over Wi-Fi) service for subscribers, which allows making calls via a Wi-Fi network even in places with a weak mobile network signal.

"The VoWiFi service is becoming available to Kyivstar subscribers. Thanks to this technology, subscribers will be able to make calls via a Wi-Fi network even in places with a weak mobile network signal," its press service reported on Wednesday.

VoWiFi is a modern technology for transmitting voice calls that allows you to get high-quality and clearer voice sound, and also provides a fast connection, the report says.

It is indicated that the VoWiFi service can be useful in places where there is Wi-Fi coverage, but the mobile network signal is weak or unstable, in particular in semi-basements, buildings with thick walls, on basement and high-rise floors.

At the same time, voice calls using the technology are charged as regular voice calls.

It is noted that the first to appreciate the benefits of VoWiFi will be users of the Home Internet service from Kyivstar with Apple smartphones released after 2018 that support iOC17 and higher.

"Over time, VoWiFi will also be available to users of other Ukrainian fixed-line providers, and the list of smartphones with VoWiFi support in the Kyivstar network will also expand," the company's press service explained.

You can learn more about the technology and check the compatibility of your smartphone on the official website of the electronic communications operator.

In addition, Kyivstar clarified that subscribers who have connected the service by phone number will be able to use VoWiFi. Subscribers using VoLTE do not need to connect VoWiFi. Also, the smartphone must have a USiM card, and the device must support VoWiFi in the Kyivstar network.

The VoWiFi function must be activated in the smartphone and the latest software updates must be installed.
