Zelenskyy, Secretary General of Council of Europe discuss creation of special tribunal for Russia's crime of aggression
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with Secretary General of the Council of Europe Alain Berset, during which the parties discussed the need to create a special tribunal for Russia's crime of aggression.
"Thank you for the support of Ukraine from the Council of Europe. We discussed the need to create a special tribunal for the crime of aggression. It is important to bring Russian war criminals to justice," Zelenskyy said in a Telegram channel on Wednesday.
In addition, the parties discussed the release of prisoners and the return of Ukrainian children illegally deported by Russia.
The president said Ukraine appreciates the role of the Council of Europe in creating the Register of Damage as a component of the international compensation mechanism.
"Ukraine is counting on the creation of a Commission for the consideration of applications and a Compensation Fund, as well as on the leadership of the Council of Europe in this process," Zelenskyy said.
