Court orders arrest of ex-deputy head of Ukraine's Higher Economic Court Yemelianov without bail

A court has chosen detention without the possibility of bail as the preventive measure for Artur Yemelianov, the former Deputy Chairman of the Higher Economic Court of Ukraine, who was arrested the day before, according to a press release from the State Bureau of Investigations (SBI).

The SBI reported that Yemelianov was detained on December 3, 2024, and is suspected of running a "business" based on judicial decisions alongside other judges. It has been established that the former judge, who is now a lawyer, was a member of a criminal organization consisting mainly of judges, lawyers, insolvency practitioners, court workers, and others.

The suspects are accused of issuing "favorable" decisions, mainly in economic disputes, in exchange for bribes. The organizer of the "business," also a former official from the Higher Economic Court, unlawfully interfered with the case distribution process, assigning cases to "his" judges who would make decisions according to the wishes of the clients.

The procedural supervision of the case is being carried out by the Prosecutor General's Office.

The SBI did not name the suspect, but informed sources confirmed to Interfax-Ukraine that the individual in question is Artur Yemelianov, the former Deputy Chairman of the Higher Economic Court of Ukraine.
