Ukraine, Moldova agree on new steps in cooperation to protect water resources of Dniester

The protocol on further cooperation between Ukraine and Moldova on the protection of the water resources of the Dniester River was signed in Chisinau by the co-chairs of the Dniester Commission.

As reported by the press service of Ukraine's Ministry of Ecology of, the document was signed by First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Olena Kramarenko and State Secretary of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of the Republic of Moldova Gheorghe Hajder.

As part of the agreements, Ukraine and Moldova: approved the work plans of the Commission's working groups for 2024-2025; continued monitoring the waters in the river basin, exchanging information on the state of the waters, and assessing their chemical and ecological status.

The parties also agreed to further exchange information on the state of water resources in accordance with the Cooperation Program between the State Hydrometeorological Service of Moldova and the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center for 2021-2025; discussed screening the legislation of Ukraine and Moldova in the field of water monitoring for compliance with European directives.

The next meeting of the Commission is scheduled in Ukraine at the end of 2025.

The parties also heard the OSCE representative on the progress of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) project "Enabling Transboundary Cooperation and Integrated Water Resources Management in the Dniester River Basin." The meeting participants recommended accelerating the completion of this important project.
