Norway approves $3.2 bln as minimum assistance to Ukraine in 2025 – Zelenskyy
Norway has approved at least $3.2 billion in annual assistance to Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said on Thursday.
"There is a very important decision by Norway to increase support for Ukraine for next year. The Norwegian government and parliament have agreed on the minimum level of funding for assistance to Ukraine – it is $3.2 billion," he said in a video message.
The head of state noted that in the days of massive Russian strikes, "it is important to feel that partners are with us."
On November 28, the Norwegian parliament decided to increase financial assistance to Ukraine to NOK 35 billion ($3.16 billion) in 2025.
In 2024, Norway allocated NOK 27 billion in support of Ukraine, but in the country's draft state budget for 2025 this amount was reduced to NOK 15 billion.
However, the opposition considered this amount insufficient, and after consultations with the authorities it was decided to increase the support to NOK 30 billion. During further discussions, the parliament settled on the amount of NOK 35 billion.
As reported, on 27 November, the heads of government of Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Norway, Poland and Sweden issued a joint statement in which they declared their intention to strengthen support for Ukraine and the Ukrainian defense industry, as well as to counter aggressive actions of Russia.
The statement also called on other countries to do the same.
