Ukraine welcomes Kellogg's appointment as Special Rep for Ukraine – MFA spokesperson

Ukraine welcomes the appointment of General Keith Kellogg, who was elected by U.S. President Donald Trump to the post of special representative for the Russian Federation's war against Ukraine, said spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Heorhiy Tykhyi.

"We welcome his nomination for this important mission. It is really important and difficult. Kellogg is not a new person for us, for Ukraine. The Ukrainian Embassy in the United States maintained close contact with him. In particular, within the framework of expert diplomacy in recent years and during this time has maintained a good dialogue with him, with General Kellogg, and our delegations have also met with him on several occasions," he said at a briefing at the Foreign Ministry on Thursday.

According to Tykhyi, Ukraine expects close and active cooperation with Kellogg and is ready to establish ties.

"General Kellogg is a man with tremendous experience in the field of national security and defense. He is a man who has made a great career in this field. Therefore, we have no doubt, because his view is complex and deep. He really understands what's going on here, what the dynamics is (...) I think that in fact, the clarification of parameters, some specific positions, it will take place in the future," said Tykhyi.

As reported, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump announced the appointment of General Keith Kellogg to the post of special representative for Ukraine and the Russian Federation.

Earlier, Kellogg served as National Security Adviser to Vice President Mike Pence, as well as Executive Secretary and Chief of Staff of the U.S. National Security Council in the first Trump administration. He served as National Security Adviser after the resignation of Michael Flynn.

Kellogg's plan to end the war in Ukraine, according to The Wall Street Journal dated November 6, provides for Ukraine's refusal to join NATO for 20 years, freezing the front line and creating a demilitarized zone. It also includes the transfer of the occupied Ukrainian territories to the Russian Federation.
