The Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS) is implementing a project to respond to emergencies in the east and south of Ukraine with the support of the International Federation of the Red Cross and USAID.

"Some 11,000 people in the east and south of the country will receive assistance from the Ukrainian Red Cross Society thanks to the support of USAID. Starting in July 2024, the Ukrainian Red Cross Society has been implementing a project on multi-sectoral response to emergencies in Zaporizhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa and Kherson regions… The program is being implemented with the support of the International Federation of the Red Cross and USAID," the URCS reported on Facebook.

The goal of the project is to help people cope with the problems that have arisen as a result of large-scale aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

The multi-sector emergency response program helps save lives and protect citizens in active combat zones, and supports internally displaced persons and vulnerable groups - women, children, the elderly and people with disabilities.

The program includes funding for winterization for the most vulnerable groups in Zaporizhia and Kherson regions, provision of hygiene kits, and a multi-purpose allowance for citizens. In addition, the project provides for psychological consultations, marking dangerous areas with mine threat signs in cooperation with the State Emergency Service, conducting training for SES employees and teachers on providing first psychological aid, mine safety and preventing gender-based violence. Upon completion of the training, their participants will receive backpacks for providing first aid.

The program also includes training for volunteers and URCS staff on psychological first aid, mine safety and prevention of gender-based violence.
