Sending European instructors to train Ukrainian military on Ukrainian territory is matter of time – Stefanishyna

Sending European instructors to train Ukrainian military directly on Ukrainian territory is a matter of time, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine, Minister of Justice Olha Stefanishyna said.

"Of course, we are discussing the training of Ukrainian military. Today we see this as an element of equipping Ukrainian brigades. We are providing the brigades with the necessary equipment, they must be provided with training and equipment. I think it is a matter of time before training takes place on Ukrainian territory," Stefanishyna told journalists in Kyiv on Monday.

She said this issue is absolutely pragmatic and is being discussed with European partners.

As reported earlier, the French newspaper Le Monde, citing its own sources, reported that classified discussions about sending Western troops and private defense companies to Ukrainian soil have resumed in anticipation of the possible U.S. refusal to support Kyiv after newly elected President Donald Trump takes office.

Before this, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said there is still no consensus among EU member states on the issue of sending instructors to train Ukrainian troops directly on Ukrainian territory, not ruling out that this will happen in the future.
