Over 10 European defense companies have joint production or rep office in Ukraine – Kamyshin

Today, more than 10 European defense companies have "something joint in different forms" in Ukraine: either an open representative office or joint production, said adviser to the President of Ukraine on strategic issues Oleksandr Kamyshin.

"We have more than 10 European companies that have something joint in different forms in Ukraine: either an open representative office or open joint production. In different forms, but these are more than 10 companies. And only three German companies," he said at the annual general meeting of the European Business Association (EBA) in Kyiv on Tuesday, the correspondent of the Interfax-Ukraine agency reports.

In particular, Kamyshin named as an excellent example a German company that opened a joint venture in Ukraine and fully finances the repair of German equipment at the expense of the German budget using Ukrainian workers.

However, he stressed that in order to purchase manufactured in Ukraine, funds are needed, recalling that this year the capacity of the Ukrainian defense industry is slightly more than $20 billion.

"Slightly more than eight will be delivered. Only for one reason - we do not have enough funds in the budget. Next year we can produce UAH 1.3 trillion, and in the budget - UAH 716 billion... Therefore, in my opinion, no more than $10 billion will remain for purchases in Ukraine, and the market capacity is already $30 billion," he said.

Kamyshin stressed that therefore Ukraine is in dire need of support from partners. Separately, he noted the success of the "Danish model," which allows attracting finances from partners to Ukrainian defense production. In particular, recently at the fourth Ukraine - Nordic summit all five participating countries supported the "Danish model" of financing weapons production in Ukraine.

According to the presidential adviser, Ukraine, when it joins the EU and NATO, will bring great value in the defense industry.

"When we become a complementary defense industry to them, and not competitive. When we produce what their defense industry does not really want to produce. Therefore, our value, which we can bring to both the EU and NATO, is very great," he noted.
