In Zhytomyr region, 55 IDP families receive housing

In Zhytomyr region, 55 families of internally displaced persons (IDPs) received housing in a new modular town, built thanks to the joint efforts of Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration, Zhytomyr City Council and the Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS).

"This is the third large-scale project of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society out of six that are already being implemented. The next ones will be in Sumy region, Zakarpattia region and Chernivtsi region, and therefore I am glad today that we are finishing this troublesome long work, and finally 55 families will be able to receive the keys to these beautiful houses," general director of the URCS Maksym Dotsenko said during the official opening of the modular town on Monday.

A total of 56 houses were built, in which 55 families (155 people) were settled. Each house is 45 square meters in area and is designed for four people. It has two bedrooms, a kitchen-studio and a separate bathroom. The apartments have all the necessary equipment: boilers, air conditioners, and showers are installed. In some cases, the needs of people with disabilities were taken into account. In addition, the town is equipped with generators, and solar panels and inverters are installed on each house. A shelter is also provided.

When resettling, priority was given to the most vulnerable categories of internally displaced persons. These included: families of military personnel who took part in the defense of the country; families whose housing was destroyed as a result of armed aggression; families of internally displaced persons who were forced to change their place of residence again due to full-scale armed aggression; large families with three or more children; families with one child; families with people with limited ability to work; families with people of retirement age.

"I want to thank the families who are moving here today. For staying in Ukraine, for working here, for raising children here with dignity. For our part, we will do everything to ensure that you never feel out of home. I thank our international partners for lending a shoulder to cry on, as well as the city authorities, the governor of Zhytomyr region," Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine - Minister for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine Oleksiy Kuleba said.
