Shmyhal, Borrell discuss further cooperation with EU, Ukrainian defense industry development

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell during his visit to Kyiv.

"We discussed our further cooperation within the European Peace Facility and the Ukraine Assistance Fund. We are grateful for the transferred shells and expect to receive a total of 1 million rounds of ammunition by the end of this year. We especially appreciate the security agreement with the EU concluded in June and expect its successful implementation," Shmyhal said in his Telegram channel following the meeting.

He said the Ukrainian side appreciates the positive assessment of Ukraine's progress in the European Commission report and the intention to open cluster negotiations as soon as possible in 2025.

"European integration is an absolute priority for us, and I thanked Mr. Borrell for his personal leadership in this process," the Prime Minister said.

He also said Ukraine is interested not only in developing joint production, but also in supporting the Ukrainian defense industry, following the example of Denmark, when allies finance the production of weapons in Ukraine for the needs of the Ukrainian security and defense forces.
