AFU General Staff: Russian troops use chemical weapons 323 times in Oct, 4,613 times starting Feb 2022

In October, Russian troops used special ammunition loaded with dangerous chemicals 323 times in combat operations against the Ukrainian Defense Forces, 4,613 times – since the beginning of a full-scale invasion, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.

"Along with conventional means of fire destruction, the enemy uses ammunition such as K-51 and RG-Vo, equipped with dangerous chemicals, which are riot control tools and are prohibited for use as a means of warfare. There is also a significant proportion of ammunition containing dangerous chemical compounds of an unidentified type," the General Staff said in a Telegram message on Friday.

It is reported that in October 2024, the radiation, chemical, and biological intelligence units of the Support Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine recorded 323 such cases.

It is noted that with the beginning of a large-scale invasion, radiation, chemical, and biological reconnaissance units carry out direct recording of the use of dangerous chemicals on the battlefield. Since February 2023, the use of dangerous chemicals by Russians has become systemic. Some 4,613 enemy uses of ammunition loaded with dangerous chemical substances have been recorded. "By doing this, the Russian Federation grossly violates the rules of warfare, ignores the norms and obligations under the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Accumulation and Use of Chemical Weapons," the message says.
