The fifth president of Ukraine (2014-19), MP, leader of the European Solidarity party Petro Poroshenko is convinced that Ukrainian-American relations with any U.S. administration will be based on support for the Ukrainian state.

"Today, pro-Russian channels are trying to create the illusion of a threat of Trump's possible return. But I am sure that our relations with any administration in the U.S. will be based on support for our state and the fight for freedom," he wrote on the social network X.

Poroshenko noted that one of Trump's first decisions [during his first term] was to transfer lethal weapons to Ukraine, which had been expected since 2014. "Javelins became a symbol of this support, but these were counter-battery radars, electronic warfare systems, and Islander naval ships. I personally met with him not only in the White House, but also at the UN General Assembly, and each such meeting was specific and productive for our country," he writes.

"It was the Trump administration that actively opposed the construction of Nord Stream 2, introducing sanctions that stopped the project. This was a major blow to Russia's energy interests. It is also important that Trump supported the Minsk agreements, and his special representative Kurt Volker clearly coordinated actions with the EU to prevent an escalation of the war," the politician emphasized.

Also, according to Poroshenko, it was with the Trump administration that he first discussed the supply of air defense systems and Apache attack helicopters. "Then, thanks to his support, we took important steps towards the autocephaly of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine," he added.
