German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock arrived in Ukraine on her ninth visit since the beginning of the full-scale Russian aggressive war against Ukraine.

According to the German Foreign Ministry, during her current trip, Foreign Minister Baerbock “wants to hold political talks and also to communicate with the Ukrainians, who have been courageously defending the future of their country in peace and security in various ways and supporting each other for almost 1,000 days.” The most important message the Foreign Minister addressed to them during her trip was: “We will counter this cruelty with our humanity and support - so that Ukrainians not only survive the winter, but also so that their country survives. After all, they also protect the freedom of all of us in Europe,” the minister said.

In addition to our energy aid – the “winter shield” for Ukraine – strengthening Ukraine’s air defenses plays an important role. As Baerbock pointed out, “repairs, solar panels, and generators are useless if they are vulnerable to the next missile strike.”

“Therefore, the trip will also aim to gain an understanding of where the international community can continue to provide targeted support,” the Foreign Ministry said.

The ministry also emphasized that Putin’s goal is to further distance Ukraine from its European neighbors.

"This plan is not working. On the contrary, Ukraine has already carried out important reforms. The EU Commission acknowledges this progress in its enlargement report. This is one of the reasons why the Foreign Minister is now going to Kyiv to assure the Ukrainians that Germany will continue to closely accompany them on their determined path to the EU," the Foreign Ministry emphasized.

According to the German television news service tagesschau, Baerbock has already arrived in Kyiv.
