European Solidarity meets with Defense Minister, discusses urgent needs of Ukraine's army - Gerashchenko

The European Solidarity faction, on the initiative of Petro Poroshenko, met with Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and the team of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine as part of parliamentary control over the executive branch. This was reported by faction co-chair Iryna Gerashchenko on the social network Facebook.

"We discussed issues of providing the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the situation with fortifications, procurement and distribution of UAVs, the need for real counteraction to corruption and abuses in procurement," the MP wrote.

"European Solidarity systematically supports the Defense Forces, we reminded about the promise of the Ministry of Defense to submit a bill on service terms, we are waiting for the document in parliament. The problem of non-transparent transfer of servicemen to units is very acute, the minister promised specific proposals to solve this problem in the near future," Gerashchenko notes.

"European Solidarity also insists that the military personal income tax should remain for the defense sector, 30% should go directly to the units, and 70% - to the Ministry of Defense. The issue of the quality of UAVs purchased by the State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection is acute. We are in favor of the Ministry of Defense being responsible for drone purchases and military standards for purchases should be introduced as soon as possible, because we receive many complaints from the military about state drones," the MP asserts.

"We raised the issue of strengthening the military training of mobilized personnel and their full provision with ammunition and protective equipment according to NATO standards," Gerashchenko added.

The MP reported on fortifications that the military is catastrophically short of construction equipment, so European Solidarity proposes to redirect UAH 30 billion from the UAH 42 billion corruption road fund for these purposes.

"Our team remains one of the largest volunteers for the front, the Poroshenko Foundation has transferred drones, ammunition, vehicles, electronic warfare systems, equipment for more than UAH 6 billion. We are ready for greater cooperation and coordination of efforts around support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but we insist on transparency of purchases and provision of the army and strengthening parliamentary control," Gerashchenko explains.
