MFA of Ukraine on BRICS summit: Russia fails to export its neo-imperialist views to summit participants
Russia’s attempts to impose the idea of an allegedly alternative position of the so-called "Global South" regarding Russian aggression against Ukraine have suffered another fiasco, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine stated, commenting on the final declaration of the BRICS summit in Kazan.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has drawn attention to paragraph 36 of the final declaration of the BRICS summit in Kazan dedicated to Ukraine, in which its participants merely recalled their national positions, their commitment to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, as well as to peaceful settlement and diplomacy. We believe that this text actually shows that Russia failed to 'export' to the BRICS summit participants its neo-imperialist views on changing the world order and global security architecture through its aggression against Ukraine," the ministry stated in a commentary published on Wednesday.
The Foreign Ministry indicated that, based on the text of the declaration, BRICS as an association does not have a unified position regarding Russian aggression against Ukraine.
"We are convinced that this is due to the support of the vast majority of these countries for the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, as also stated in the declaration. Such support is incompatible with support for aggression or changing borders by force, and therefore incompatible with support for Russia and its war of aggression against Ukraine," the ministry stressed.
The BRICS summit, which Russia planned to use to divide the world, has only once again shown that the world majority remains on Ukraine's side in its efforts to guarantee the establishment of a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace based on respect for international law and the UN Charter, including the principle of territorial integrity in the internationally recognized borders, the Foreign Ministry insists.
"We remind you that the only way to achieve this remains the Peace Formula. We call on all countries that stand on the side of international law, and not the law of force, to join in its implementation," the commentary concludes.
