ICC field office in Kyiv to become more open to public - Prosecutor Khan

The work of the International Criminal Court (ICC) field office in Kyiv will become more open to Ukrainians, said ICC prosecutor Karim Khan.

During a meeting with Ukrainian journalists in The Hague, answering a question about whether it is possible to make the ICC Office more open and its work understandable for Ukrainians by appointing a public relations representative, Khan said that this is a priority.

He said that during his visit to Ukraine he spoke with dozens of representatives of non-governmental organizations that could be involved in this work.

At the same time, the ICC prosecutor explained that the court premises and the investigation itself are sensitive, so the discussion is about ways to convey to Ukrainians the essence and goals of the ICC’s work.

Noting the high efficiency of the team in Kyiv, Khan emphasized that they are trying to find ways to convey what the ICC is, what it does. He once again stressed that they are open, they regularly interact with non-governmental organizations, not only with the Ukrainian authorities.
