Poroshenko urges presentation of Victory Plan in Verkhovna Rada, stepping up efforts to get Ukraine invited to NATO

Following a series of meetings in the governments of the Scandinavian countries and at the Assembly of the European People's Party, the leader of the European Solidarity party and Ukrainian Member of Parliament (MP), Petro Poroshenko, has called on the Ukrainian authorities to focus on achieving Ukraine's invitation to NATO, the political force said on its website on Tuesday.

"At each of my meetings in the Scandinavian governments, and in the parliaments of the Scandinavian countries, and in Brussels, during the Assembly of the European People's Party, where we heard all the candidates for the posts of European Commissioners, two questions sounded. The first is the situation on the front and the second is what the Victory Plan is. I have now heard that it is presented in PACE, it is presented in the European Parliament, it is presented in the Parliamentary Assembly of NATO. We have a parliamentary-presidential republic, and the plan should be presented in the highest legislative body of the state – the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine," he said, speaking from the rostrum of the Ukrainian parliament.

The MP once again emphasized that Ukraine's membership in NATO is a key factor in the security of the state.

"You and I are on the eve of Ramstein [a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group], and I would like to hear there about solving the issue of providing us with long-range weapons and inviting Ukraine to NATO. NATO is a key factor in the existence of the Ukrainian state. [...] I am sure that we are anticipating Ukraine's invitation to NATO. And the work of the President, the Government, the Parliament should be focused on this very issue. You and I should work day and night to meet NATO criteria," he said

Poroshenko expressed hope that the Victory Plan includes Ukraine's membership in the EU and NATO, as well as no compromises on Ukraine's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, on the capacity of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and on sanctions, which should cut off the possibility of a way to finance armed aggression.
