PGO: Russians execute at least 93 Ukrainian POWs on battlefield
Ukrainian law enforcement agencies have information about the execution of 93 Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russian forces, Head of the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) Department for combating crimes committed during armed conflict Yuriy Belousov said.
"We now have information about the death of 93 of our soldiers, who were executed on the battlefield," Belousov said on the air of a nationwide telethon on Friday.
According to him, 80% of cases of executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war were recorded in 2024, but the trend began to appear in November 2023, when "there were changes in the attitude of Russian military personnel towards our prisoners of war for the worse."
He also said on Thursday, October 3, it became known about another execution of a Ukrainian serviceman by the Russian army, the relevant videos were distributed on Telegram channels. "We immediately registered another criminal case with the SBU Main Investigation Department."
As reported, on October 1, it became known that Russian forces shot 16 Ukrainian prisoners of war in Pokrovsk axis in Donetsk region. This is the largest known case of execution of Ukrainian soldiers on the frontline.
Earlier, it was reported that the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine presented a report on March 26 in which, among other things, it recorded the executions of at least 32 Ukrainian prisoners of war in 12 separate cases between December 2023 and February 2024, which is "significantly more than in any of the previous periods."
