Rutte discusses with Zelenskyy further support of Ukraine from NATO
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said on Thursday that he had held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on further assistance to Kyiv from the alliance.
"Today we discussed the areas in which Ukraine needs further support, as well as how NATO can provide it," Rutte said in Kyiv at a press conference with Zelenskyy, broadcast by the NATO website.
Rutte noted that the primary task for the alliance, in addition to helping Ukraine, is to replenish the weapons stocks of NATO countries.
"Industrial production is increasing to support Ukraine and replenish our arsenals. And this will be a priority for me," the NATO Secretary General said.
According to Rutte, Ukraine's internal potential can only be strengthened by investments and innovations.
Earlier it was reported that Rutte went to Kyiv on an unannounced visit. This is his first trip since taking office as NATO Secretary General.
On the eve of the NATO headquarters, a ceremony was held for the transfer of powers to Rutte from the previous Secretary General of the alliance, Jens Stoltenberg. Rutte promised to continue to implement the course that Stoltenberg used to follow.
